In the picture below you can see the stand-offs that are part of the backplate (that butt up against the heads). This system includes hose barbs that can be threaded into those stand-offs and allow you to vent externally, as discretely as you would like.
This Picture is showing an Ness Big Sucker Air Cleaner that has our Sano Black Air Cleaner Cover, specifically made for Big Suckers & HD Stage I Air Cleaners. You can see this cover HERE.
An external Breather Kit is preferred with any Air Cleaner System. This allows for only clean cool air to go into the air cleaner and engine, increasing performance and engine longevity.
This DIY kit is designed for aftermarket Stage 1 Air Cleaners that don't allow for venting out the end of the breather bolt. It can even be used with the stock air cleaner.
The EPA has required Harley to route hot, dirty, oily crankcase air back into the air cleaner compromising the performance of your engine. This vents it without compromising the performance and longevity of your motor.
With this breather system you will experience a slight performance increase. This is because engines like Cold Dry air!

Fits All Sportsters & Big Twin Evo Models - 1991 & Up
*This kit requires drilling (11/32" drill bit) and tapping (1/8" NPT Tap) threads into the stand-offs (that are part of the backplate). The benefits are that you can completely hide the hoses, if you wish, and it will work with air cleaners where no other external venting system will work.
Drill bit & Tap kit is an option above.
If your air cleaner system will accept the Stock OEM breather bolts, we have other breather kits that are straight bolt on, not requiring any drilling or tapping. You can see the one for the Sportster HERE, and the one for the Twin Cams HERE.
Filter may, or may not, have a small loop in it. This does not affect the aesthetics or installation choices. The filter may also vary in shape, size and color.
Caution: Motorcycles modified with this DK Custom Products High-Performance part may not be legal for public highway use in some areas. The user shall determine suitability of this product for his or her use.

External breather 0 people found this helpfulWorks perfectly. All needed hardware included. I purchased the drill and tap also. The only thing I did different was drilled the stock breather holes inside the air cleaner and plugged them with small set screws with red loctite.

DIY External Breather 0 people found this helpfulI run an Arlen Ness big sucker on my Dyna and needed a solution for the accumulation of blowby in the air filter, DK customer support was very helpful with pointing me in the direction of the DIY kit which worked best for my current setup. Installation is straightforward and pretty easy to do with some basic tools and loctite. I made sure to add the additional drill bit and tap to the kit, costs a little bit more but worth it. The kit supplies plenty of hose so you can run it along any which way you want to hid the catch filter, I personally like the look and ran it directly below the intake. Works well and does the job, definitely worth the money imo. Thanks DK

DIY Breather System 0 people found this helpfulI've had oil dripping out of my air cleaner from it being sucked through the breathers. Straight forward kit, I blocked the holes with set screws and loctite. Seems to rum better when it's been run for a long while. The kit doesn't come with the fancy breather pictured

Excellent product! 0 people found this helpfulI did a stage 4 128ci on my 2021 Harley Davidson Road King and discovered a lot of thick carbon build up on my stock pistons with only 8000 miles on it caused by oil blow by! Installed the DIY external breather kit that fixed my problem!

Great Product 0 people found this helpfulOrdering was fast and simple. Product came very quickly. Install was easy with basic tools and knowledge required. The hardest part for me was just getting the filter in place, working just off the jiffy stand limits ease of placement. Overall great product I had oil definitely blowing by and my throttle body had a ring of oil around the butterfly. I have a 2018 Sport Glide and I installed it close to 4000 mi so hopefully it's good to go. Thanks DK

Convenience of kit. 0 people found this helpfulThe kit had everything I needed for installation. The quarter inch pipe tap worked great and it was nice having the proper bit size included. The installation went without a hitch. I’m going to install their oil filter re locator next oil change.

DIY Head Breather 0 people found this helpfulWas Getting Blow By on My 18 Road Glide Special Now an then,Would be oil on Right Saddlebag an bottom of Air Cleaner.I run a Arlen Ness Big Sucker Under Stock Cover.This kit allows you to hide filter good.Have put 300 miles on no more blow by.Easy to install good instructions.
